Love is Love — Celebrating Every Story

Love is Love — Celebrating Every Story

There’s something very special about listening to people talk about the person they love.

Not because every story is dramatic or extraordinary.

Often, it’s quite the opposite.

It’s in the way someone remembers their first meeting. The details they somehow still remember years later. The smile that appears when they talk about an ordinary moment that means something only to them.

Those are often the moments that stay with me.

And they are a reminder that no two love stories are ever quite the same.

Every Journey Has Its Own Story

One of the privileges of being a celebrant is hearing how people found one another.

Some couples met when they were young and have grown up together over the years.

Others found each other later in life, at a time when they weren’t expecting it.

Some have travelled a straightforward path.

Others have overcome obstacles, uncertainty, distance, or challenges along the way.

Every story carries its own history.

And for many LGBTQ+ couples, simply being able to celebrate their relationship openly and authentically is part of that story too.

Different journeys.

Different experiences.

Yet the same desire to stand beside the person they love and say, “This is who we are.”

Being Seen for Who You Are

At the heart of every ceremony is a simple human desire.

To be known.

To be understood.

To feel accepted for who you are.

When I talk with couples, what matters most is rarely the logistics of the day. It’s the stories, values, memories and experiences that have shaped their relationship.

The things that make it uniquely theirs.

Those details are what transform a ceremony from something people attend into something people genuinely connect with.

Because when a ceremony feels authentic, people recognise it.

They see the couple within it.

The Little Things Matter

One thing I’ve noticed is that love is often found in the smaller moments.

The habits that make someone smile.

The routines that become part of everyday life.

The way one person always finishes the other’s story.

The look that passes between two people before either of them says a word.

Those are the details that tell a story.

And they’re often far more revealing than any grand gesture.

When couples share those moments with me, they’re usually the parts that bring a ceremony to life.

A Place for Every Story

One of the things I value most about celebrant-led ceremonies is the freedom they offer.

There is no expectation that a story should fit a particular mould.

Every couple arrives with their own experiences, traditions, personalities and hopes for the future.

The ceremony simply becomes a space where those things can be honoured.

A place where people can celebrate their relationship in a way that feels genuine, comfortable and true to them.

A Quiet Celebration

Perhaps that’s why I enjoy this work so much.

Every ceremony reminds me that love doesn’t follow a single path.

It isn’t defined by a template or measured against someone else’s story.

It exists in countless different forms, shaped by the people living it.

And every one of those stories deserves to be heard.

So this is simply a quiet celebration of that.

Of the couples who have found one another.

Of the journeys that brought them here.

And of the simple but powerful act of standing together and saying:

“This is us.”

Because however a story begins, and whatever path it has taken, love is love.

And every story deserves to be celebrated.
