Weddings

Your wedding ceremony should sound like you — not like something borrowed from a script.

As a wedding celebrant in Brighton and Sussex, I create relaxed, personal wedding ceremonies shaped around the people at the centre of them.

A celebrant wedding ceremony gives you the freedom to tell your story in your own way. We can reflect the journey that brought you together, the things you value, the people who matter to you and the kind of atmosphere you want to create on the day.

Some couples want something full of laughter and personality. Others imagine a quieter, more intimate ceremony with space for reflection. You may want familiar wedding traditions, completely new ideas, or a mixture of both.

There is no one right way for your ceremony to feel.

A Wedding Ceremony Built Around Your Story

When we begin planning, I take time to get to know you both.

I want to hear how you met, what makes you laugh, what you admire about one another and the moments that have shaped your relationship.

Those details are what make a ceremony feel personal.

Rather than following a standard wedding ceremony script, I write your ceremony around your story, your personalities and the tone you want for the day.

That might mean a ceremony that is romantic without feeling overly formal, emotional without becoming too heavy, or relaxed and playful while still holding the importance of the moment.

The aim is simple: when your guests listen, they should recognise you in the words.

What Can You Include in a Celebrant Wedding Ceremony?

One of the lovely things about working with a wedding ceremony celebrant is the freedom to explore what feels meaningful to you.

Your ceremony could include:

  • your love story
  • personal wedding vows
  • readings or poems
  • music that means something to you
  • family or friends taking part
  • children or pets having a special role
  • symbolic wedding rituals such as handfasting, a ring warming, unity candle, sand ceremony or quaich ceremony
  • a moment to remember somebody who cannot be there
  • cultural or family traditions
  • promises that reflect the life you are building together

Or you may decide that the most meaningful choice is to keep things beautifully simple.

There is no expectation to include traditions or symbolic moments simply because other couples do. I’ll talk you through the possibilities and help you decide what genuinely belongs in your ceremony.

Personal Wedding Vows

Writing your own wedding vows can feel exciting — and sometimes slightly daunting.

You do not need to be a writer, and your vows do not need to sound poetic or perfect.

I can help you think about what you want to promise, how you want your words to sound and how much you would like to say.

Some couples write completely individual vows. Others prefer shared promises, shorter personal words, or vows we develop together.

What matters is that they sound like you.

Including the People Who Matter

Your wedding ceremony does not have to be something your guests simply watch.

If it feels right, we can find meaningful ways to involve family and friends.

Children might take part in a sand ceremony or family promises. A friend might share a reading. Parents or grandparents might offer words of support. Guests can take part in a ring warming or another symbolic moment.

For blended families, this can be an especially lovely opportunity to reflect the whole family and not just the couple.

These moments can be simple, but often they are the details people remember afterwards.

How I Support You

From our first conversation, I’ll guide you through the process without telling you what your wedding ceremony should look like.

We’ll talk about your ideas, the tone you want, any traditions you would like to include and anything you definitely do not want.

I’ll help you explore wedding ceremony ideas, readings, rituals and ways to make the ceremony feel personal. I’ll then write a completely bespoke ceremony for you and share drafts so you can review the wording and make changes.

I can also liaise with your venue and other suppliers where needed, helping the ceremony run smoothly alongside the rest of your day.

On the day itself, I’ll be a calm and steady presence — welcoming your guests, guiding everyone through the ceremony and making sure you can relax into the moment rather than worrying about what comes next.
