Why I Chose the Tree of Life

People sometimes ask why I chose the tree of life as part of my logo.

The honest answer is that it never felt like just a logo.

From the beginning, I wanted something that reflected the kind of ceremonies I hope to create and the people at the heart of them.

The more I thought about it, the more the tree kept coming back.

Trees quietly witness so much of life.

They grow slowly. They weather storms. They put down deep roots, stretch out in new directions, and often become places where people gather. They mark the passing of time without ever needing to say a word.

In many ways, the people I meet remind me of that.

Every person has roots. A family they were born into, or one they’ve built for themselves. Experiences that have shaped them. People they’ve loved. Moments that have changed them.

And every life continues to grow in its own direction.

That’s what I find myself listening for when I sit down with a couple or a family. Not just the milestones, but the quieter details. The stories that explain how someone became who they are.

The tree of life seems to hold all of that.

For a wedding, it can represent two lives growing together while still honouring the paths that brought each person there.

For a naming ceremony, it reminds me that a child doesn’t grow on their own. They’re surrounded by parents, grandparents, siblings, friends and family who will help shape the person they become.

And at a funeral, it speaks gently of a life that continues to leave its mark. The roots remain. The branches reach into future generations. The love people leave behind doesn’t simply disappear.

I also like the quietness of a tree.

It doesn’t demand attention.

It simply stands, offering shelter, strength and a sense of steadiness.

That’s how I hope families feel when we work together. My role isn’t to be the centre of the ceremony. It’s to create the space where the people, the stories and the moments that matter can be seen.

So whenever I see the tree in my logo, it reminds me of something simple.

Every ceremony begins with people.

Their stories.

Their connections.

Their place in the lives of those around them.

Everything else grows from there.
